Weekend Agenda

Weekend Agenda | Design Indaba 2019

By Rosie Furlong

For those of you who haven’t heard of the Indaba Design conference – let us enlighten you…

Running from 27th February – 1st March, Indaba is an annual celebration of design and creativity held in South Africa showcasing the hottest and most relevant talents across the creative sectors. Many of the designers who will be giving talks have created their businesses from the ground up. Something us at PENSON know all about! After all, we wouldn’t be the PENSON we are today if our fearless CEO hadn’t taken a leap of faith and broken away to bring to life his own brand of creativity.

We’ve selected some of our favourite talents stepping out at Indaba this year…

Adebayo Oke-Lawal:

Founder of Orange Culture, Oke-Lawal’s motivation and work ethic is just as strong as his designs, which marry universal silhouettes with Nigerian inspired fabrics, colours and prints. Catch his talk on Friday, March 1st from 11:15 – 11:45am.

Markus Kayser

Kayser is the founder of Kayser Works, and his invention of FIBERBOTS is revolutionary. The FIBERBOTS are a swarm of robots designed to wind fibreglass filament around themselves to create high-strength tubular structures.

These structures can be built in parallel and interwoven to rapidly create architectural structures – the video of them in motion is also super mesmerising – this is one the PENSON architects will be watching keenly! Catch him Thursday 28th February 14:05 – 14:25pm.

Dave Hakkens:

Hakkens is our newest Global Problem Superhero – helping to solve problems with his never-ending supply of ideas! From reducing e-waste with a modular phone to making informative videos or developing machines to boost plastic recycling, we recommend catching his inspiring talk on Wednesday 27th February 12:05 – 12:25.

This small collection here shows us just why we love the Indaba Design Conference – great talent that’s simply improving life at the core.
