Weekend Agenda | Ilkay

To give you a better understanding of the people behind the sleek interiors of SEI and the green velvet ‘pub’ room at Google HQ, we decided to put down our tools for a moment and throw our doors wide open. Every now and again we introduce you to one PENSONite, where they share their weekend game plan with you.

Wading our way through the world of design isn’t easy. PENSON’s work is a bi-product of never-ending research and heated discussions over a cuppa. All those hours spent doing research, tweaking architectural drawings, perfecting mood boards, completing renders, selecting new samples and writing reports often stay behind closed doors, and so do the individuals who make it all happen. A lot of our creative ‘work’ gets done in our spare time: reading books, flicking through magazines, visiting exhibitions and trade shows, going to gigs, pinteresting – we draw inspiration from everyday life and try to translate it into our designs.

PENSON’s recent addition comes in the form of new Junior Interior Designer Ilkay. Colours, textures and new brands are what makes Ilkay tick. With a perfect eye to spot new trends, Ilkay doesn’t miss a beat when it comes to design. A resident Londoner, she has always known what’s happening where and is always on the look out for a coveted event or exhibition that fellow PENSONites would love.

Look at this:

What excites me more than London Fashion Week itself is seeing people’s personal street style – so much inspo!

Read this:

The Book Thief – it’s all about the discovery of the power of language in a place where there is only one language – the language of war.

Eat this:

Street food from Brick Lane market hall. Need I say more?! Indian curry, Chinese dumplings, Malaysian pancakes…literally anything goes and it’s all incredibly delicious.

See this:

Andreas Gursky photography exhibition at the Hayward Gallery. It runs from January 2018 – April 2018 and opens the Hayward Gallery after a two-year refurbishment. I just love the way he manages to depict everyday normal scenarios and then turns them into large-scale critiques of global issues.

Drink this:

Iced cinnamon almond milk macchiato. My new fav.

Watch this:

Black Mirror on Netflix – you just have to see it. It’s something that’s so relevant at the moment.

Listen to this:

Anything Lana Del Rey – she manages to do modern but also is distinctly old school Hollywood glamour.

Do this:

Rooftop film club. Grab some drinks from the bar and enjoy watching a movie on a deckchair with outstanding views.
