Our weekend agenda is back! This week we have Manon, our new resident Interior Designer. London has recently gained a quirky & creative talent in the form of Manon, who hails from Nantes, France. Manon has been getting out and exploring the best London has to offer. She is constantly on the lookout for the next best thing to see & do. Every weekend sparks a new discovery & exhibition that she then recommends to fellow PENSONites.
To give you a better understanding of the people behind the sleek interiors of Lotte World Tower and the green velvet ‘pub’ room at Google HQ, we decided to put down our tools for a moment and throw our doors wide open. Every now and again we introduce you to one PENSONite, where they share their weekend game plan with you.
Wading our way through the world of design isn’t easy. PENSON’s work is a bi-product of never-ending research and heated discussions over a cuppa. All those hours spent doing research, tweaking architectural drawings, perfecting mood boards, completing renders, selecting new samples and writing reports often stay behind closed doors, and so do the individuals who make it all happen. A lot of our creative ‘work’ gets done in our spare time: reading books, flicking through magazines, visiting exhibitions and trade shows, going to gigs, pinteresting – we draw inspiration from everyday life and try to translate it into our designs.
Look at this:
One of my favourite things to do is going to see some digital installations.
NONOTAK – Or Nonotak Studio – is a studio of digital experimentation. Masterminded by Takami Nakamoto, the studio uses sounds and lights to create performance pieces that reinvent space. He uses technology in different ways to create immersive and aesthetic installations. I went to a live performance recently where he featured alongside Sebastien Benoit. The entire performance was spellbinding. It was simply hypnotising & electric – it gave me goosebumps. You can see the performance here.
Eat this:
A simple salad of cucumber, with a special sauce from my grandma. I have become addicted to this! After you have it once you just won’t be able to stop. You can eat it a lot, it’s just vegetables and it’s perfect for the summer!
I’ll give you the secret recipe one day…
See this:
Utopia – It’s a UK TV series.
I love this series because I have a fascination with the way it was filmed. It has saturated colours and the time and movements of the camera are slow. The story, characters & situations are crazy. The aesthetic of the filming & construction is completely unusual & unique. It has a sense of vintage nostalgia that’s been painted over to achieve a pastiche-like-effect. Sensitive people be careful! Violence is spreading on the path of utopia – be it physical, moral, or psychological. I will admit that I shielded my eyes a lot of the time…! My only regret is that the TV series was cancelled.
So now…the only questions remains…where is Jessica Hyde?…
Drink this:
I don’t have many preferences about drinking – but wine (French!) is definitely for me! But, I can say, if you like cocktails and you want to experience some delicious ones, I recommend visiting the “Every Cloud” bar in London (Hackney Central). They create special concoctions & experiment with flavours & experiences and it’s…..WOW! You can see their menu here. I would say that they’re my fav cocktail bar!
Watch this:
The Lobster – It’s the weirdest movie I’ve seen, but I don’t know why I love it. The way the film was shot is really intriguing. The lights display an effective tint to them and the colours in the film are beautiful.
It’s a nice little critique of our current society, with a lot of reflections around it. It’s really interesting.
Do this:
Into the Unknown – A Journey through Science Fiction at the Barbican. It’s currently one of the best exhibitions in London at the moment. And that’s quite a statement.
If you are a lover of Science Fiction and you’ve seen all the movies and TV series from Star Trek to Interstellar, I am obliged to advise you that you need to go to this exhibition.
Go on. Just go for it. Barbican Forever! It’s on until 1st September 2017 & is priced at £14.50
